Message of Support from KCL UCU

To the students in occupation at King's College London:

Students at King's have been in occupation at the Strand campus since the afternoon of Wednesday 1st December. They join a growing number of university occupations across Britain, which include UCL, SOAS and Cambridge.

During last year's dispute, students at King's showed tremendous support for their teachers and other staff in UCU. This was a key factor in our campaign to defend lecturers' jobs. Now, students are at the forefront of the fight against cuts which would see the closure of entire courses and departments and even whole universities. These cuts, along with a huge rise in tuition fees and the ending of the educational maintenance allowance (EMA), will leave a whole generation of young people unable to afford a decent further or higher education. The student protests are an inspiration to us all, and KCL UCU executive committee gives its full support to the students at King's who have taken a stand.

We urge all UCU members to visit the occupation and show support: Room K2.31 on the Strand Campus.

KCL UCU Executive Committee
